When city officials announced “aggressive” plans in January to close or merge nine schools in the city’s turnaround Renewal program, they promised a series of public meetings at each school to solicit input.
The vast majority of those meetings are scheduled over the next two weeks, and will give the public a chance to offer feedback. Parents and educators have already pushed against plans to close at least one Renewal school — J.H.S. 145 in the Bronx — highlighting a tension in the city’s argument that it needs to close or merge schools that are still in a three-year program to help turn them around.
Here is a schedule of those meetings, which all start at 6 p.m. (One school, J.H.S. 162 Lola Rodriguez de Tio, is omitted from the list because its public hearing already happened.)
