Students, parents, teachers, and community members in Denver have less than two weeks to weigh in on whether Deputy Superintendent Susana Cordova should get the district’s top job.
The most prominent opportunity to do so will be a public forum scheduled for Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at George Washington High School, the district announced Wednesday. Attendees will have a chance to meet Cordova and ask about her vision and priorities, the announcement said.
The school board is set to vote Dec. 17 on whether to appoint her superintendent.
Denver Public Schools students, staff, and parent volunteers will have other opportunities to meet with Cordova, but those forums won’t be open to public participation.
Student leaders are scheduled to meet with her Wednesday night in a closed session. Afterward, parent volunteers on two separate committees that are tasked with making recommendations on topics such the district’s budget and issues with declining enrollment are set to meet with her. That meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m., will be livestreamed.
School leaders and district staff will meet with Cordova on Dec. 10 and 12.
The school board named Cordova the sole finalist to lead Denver Public Schools last week after a four-month national search. She is a lifelong resident of Denver and an Abraham Lincoln High School graduate who began her education career as a bilingual teacher in the district in 1989.
