Join mindSpark Learning and Design Thinking expert Ellen Deutscher for a highly interactive two-day session on Design Thinking as it relates to education! Design Thinking (DT) is a methodology used by designers to solve complex problems. DT uses innovative thinking to solve these problems by using logic, imagination, intuition and systematic reasoning. This innovative thinking is geared toward the exploration of future possibilities in the creative realm, and the creation of desired outcomes for the end user. Ellen Deutscher will facilitate this hands-on session. Ellen is a DT expert, and has over 20 years of experience teaching for public schools in the San Francisco Bay area. She is a Teacher Coach for the IDEO Teachers Guild and works as an advisor/collaborator with David Kelley (co-founder of IDEO, and Stanford d.school) in the K12 space. This introductory workshop is intended for learners from all grade levels and specialty areas. Participants will have the opportunity to complete a full cycle of the DT process, including “empathy interviews,” fast paced ideation and rapid prototyping. On the second day, participants will take a deeper dive by participating in a longer challenge in order to gain further understanding of the process. Participants will have the opportunity to work in small groups and/or individually to determine the best approach to implementing DT in their own classrooms and learning environments, and will leave the day with concrete implementable ideas in the form of Ellen's Design Dots.
