This equity-centered design thinking workshop is aimed to develop better designers and problem solvers. We will examine our own identity in order to problem solve for an end user through the human-centered design process. We will encompass the classical tools of equity-centered design thinking through a variety of facilitated experiences which support high level practice and understanding. Activities will include creative problem solving, human-centered explorations, hands-on prototyping with a variety of supplies and tools and robust feedback-reflection-iteration loops. The underlying goal of this workshop will be to foster creative problem solving both in your own lives as well as those of your students through an equity and empathy lens. Participants will: Apply the tools of equity-centered design thinking as they engage in authentic and practical applications, reflective opportunities and scenarios. Use the tools of equity centered design thinking to gain a deep understanding of how to use empathy to solve for an end user.
