The Academy of Medical and Public Health Services (AMPHS) is hosting its third annual Health Empowerment Celebration in Sunset Park in Brooklyn this September. Our organization has been serving our community for seven years now and we are proud to provide free health screenings, vision exams, and social work consultations for our low-income residents who cannot afford health insurance. We are very excited to, once again, promote a healthy lifestyle in our community, in addition to wellness activities for our Sunset Park residents, during our Health Empowerment Celebration. Last year, we had a record attendance of 1200 community members, and this year, we expect to host more residents at our event, which will be held at our community park. We host activities for families such as Tai Chi, yoga, and Zumba, and soccer for the kids. We also provide free healthy food tastings and health awareness booths and performances.

Office Hours are an informal time to meet with Chalkbeat reporters, learn about what we do, and bring us your feedback and story ideas. In October's rendition of office hours, we're linking up with the official launch of the Memphis Restorative Justice Coalition. We'll have a booth set up and will be excited to hear your thoughts about restorative justice in schools...and just any education issue on your minds. Join us on Oct. 26 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at Regina's Cajun Kitchen, 60 North Main. This event is sponsored by the Memphis Urban League, Memphis Urban League Young Professionals, Profound Gentlemen, and The Dividend. It is made possible by the Tennessee Educational Equity Coalition.
