Mindfulness and SEL Strategies for Wellness Institute
Mindfulness and social and emotional learning (SEL) continue to be extremely important and relevant to students and educators alike, especially as more and more schools take the initiative to focus on the implications of emotionally-developed students. At their core, mindfulness and SEL might seem similar, but the two have distinct purposes, ideologies, frameworks and strategies which support personal growth in a variety of ways. Both support self-awareness and emotional development, and it can be powerful to explore them in tandem. This institute is designed to support educators with the research and tools they need to successfully implement strategies and practices, with their students, that focus on developing the skills necessary to managing emotions and being mindfully aware of the impact those emotions have on daily life. This starts with educators who are not only knowledgeable about the practices -- like feeling and sharing empathy, making informed decisions based on managed emotions and setting positive goals -- but who also embrace the benefits of implementing said practices into their daily lives. Topics and Questions Covered: What is SEL and how is it beneficial to students’ learning environments and to their future careers? What is mindfulness and how does it breed self-awareness? How can mindful practices and SEL concepts be developed to help students understand why they react the way they do, and how to respond with intention? How can educators embody these mindful practices and ultimately teach their students how to do the same? How are these concepts and strategies relevant beyond the school environment (i.e. interpersonal relationships and career readiness)? How does focusing on the adoption of these strategies result in an enhanced ability to deal with the rigors associated with reaching academic goals? Who should attend this Institute? Any educator, or school mental-health professional, who is interested in mindfulness and SEL practices for themselves and their students Instructional coaches who want to support adult learners in their quest to develop these skills themselves Administrators who wish to bring a more advanced understanding of SEL and a culture of mindfulness to their schools Teams of educators who want proven strategies that work to bring these mindsets to their school, at every level. Anyone outside of education interested in developing a deeper understanding of mindfulness and SEL and it’s benefits in work environments Participants of this institute will leave with a deep understanding of how SEL and mindfulness can impact the lives of their students in profound ways, and help them develop into emotionally aware individuals who thrive in their environments. If you’re seeking to further your knowledge of mindfulness and SEL and how both relate to the emotional well-being of students, this institute is for you.
