Parent Workshop: Social Emotional Learning & Academic Development: The Key to Learning and School Success
The social emotional climate at school should be comfortable, safe and nurturing. Research shows that a positive social and emotional climate is essential for academic achievement and a key component of a healthy school. Join Action for Healthy Kids, Colorado PTA and special guest speaker Finessa Ferrell from the Colorado Education Initiative to learn what it means to develop young people socially and emotionally, and to understand the relationship between a positive social and emotional climate and success in school. Evie Hudak, Public Policy Director at Colorado PTA will give a special presentation on how public school finance works and an overview of Amendment 73 which will appear on the ballot in November. Join us for an evening of true stories from Memphis educators and students. Chalkbeat Tennessee is hosting a storytelling event under the theme "Natural Consequences" alongside Spillit.
We'll explore how natural and unnatural, just and unjust consequences to actions impact our lives and experiences. Storytellers will deliver personal stories, and many of them will touch on how, in diverse ways, school discipline has impacted their lives. Don't miss our latest investigation into school discipline practices here.Tickets are 10 dollars and available at the door the evening of the show.
