August 2018 Drop-In Play Come inside and cool off with these drop-in art projects and play opportunities taking place on August weekends in our Studio. Activities invite young artists to build fine motor skills, explore art making materials, and learn how to make new friends in a communal play space. Feel the summer vibes at SPARK as we soak up the sun and celebrate the last warm days of the season. Saturday, August 4 – Sunday, August 5 Peacock fans Cool off at Spark and make an origami fan to beat the August heat! Saturday, August 11 – Sunday, August 12 Shooting Stars Craft your very own shooting star out of paper and mixed media art supplies that keep your creativity soaring! Saturday, August 17 – Sunday, August 18 Hot Air Balloons Make a textured highflying hot air balloon out of colorful paper and sensory-rich art supplies. Saturday, August 24 – Sunday, August 25 Jellyfish Windsock Combine everyday recycled materials with a little imagination and create a colorful jellyfish windsock. Join us for an evening of true stories from Memphis educators and students. Chalkbeat Tennessee is hosting a storytelling event under the theme "Natural Consequences" alongside Spillit.
We'll explore how natural and unnatural, just and unjust consequences to actions impact our lives and experiences. Storytellers will deliver personal stories, and many of them will touch on how, in diverse ways, school discipline has impacted their lives. Don't miss our latest investigation into school discipline practices here.Tickets are 10 dollars and available at the door the evening of the show.
