Shelby County Schools will hold its Optional Schools Fair on Sunday Jan. 8, to help families learn about what the district's 46 optional schools have to offer. Applications to attend optional schools in the 2017-18 school year will be accepted beginning Jan. 27. Optional schools are designed to provide creative and rigorous coursework and extracurricular programs led by teachers who inspire and challenge high-performing students to achieve their best. Every optional school has a specialized learning focus, such as Enriched Academics, College Prep, International Studies, International Baccalaureate, Creative & Performing Arts, Health Science, and Automotive Technology. Join us for an evening of true stories from Memphis educators and students. Chalkbeat Tennessee is hosting a storytelling event under the theme "Natural Consequences" alongside Spillit.
We'll explore how natural and unnatural, just and unjust consequences to actions impact our lives and experiences. Storytellers will deliver personal stories, and many of them will touch on how, in diverse ways, school discipline has impacted their lives.
