This annual one-day program to register and educate students about civic participation helps promote a voting culture in our youngest eligible citizens. SVRD was conceived to increase youth voter registration and get NYC students excited about getting involved in the democratic process. SVRD is a joint collaboration of NYC Votes, Council Member Helen Rosenthal, and members of the New York City Council. The inaugural event was held on March 20, 2015 and registered over 2,000 students at 25 schools across the city. Through interactive discussion, SVRD facilitators encourage students to explore the issues that are most important to them, and challenge them to think critically about how these issues are dealt with at the public policy level, to help connect voting to their everyday lives. SVRD volunteers help students of age complete their registration forms. - See more at: http://nyccfb.org/nyc-votes/programs/svrd/#sthash.vyce9MSs.dpuf
