In this session teachers will review the NYS ENL Progressions and Language Proficiency Performance Descriptions to capture the ways ELLs of lower proficiency levels can participate in content classrooms as well as the types of scaffolding needed to support them well. Building on this foundation, we will then look at strategies to engage middle and high school ELLs in grade level content using proficiency level-appropriate materials and activities that promote the use of English to advance oral and written language proficiency while learning valued content. Participants will have opportunities to apply their learning to representative secondary Social Studies and ELA units of instruction. REGISTER: NYCSPED.ORG/EVENTS
