This workshop will draw on Facing History’s study guides for Night, Brown Girl Dreaming, Red Scarf Girl, and others to explore ways of engaging youth in thinking about identity, understanding the historical context of each text, and analyzing adolescent choices. The workshop will provide teachers with rich primary sources and historical background materials, along with approaches for teaching memoir as informational text, to equip teachers with practical literacy strategies. 5 CTLE hours available.
