A symposium and discussion with leading education scholars, policymakers and practitioners about the future of community schools in New York City and New York State. They will discuss a new study finding that well designed and implemented community schools can raise academic achievement in high-poverty communities. The event will feature: -- UCLA Presidential Professor Emeritus Jeannie Oakes, a co-author of the new study and keynote speaker; -- New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña; -- Betty Rosa, Chancellor of the New York State Board of Regents; and -- Christopher Caruso, Executive Director of Community Schools, New York City Department of Education. President Susan H. Fuhrman and Professor Carolyn Riehl of Teachers College will also participate in the discussion.
