Chalkbeat is excited to announce its 2015 summer internship program.
This year Chalkbeat is offering a total of five paid, 10-week internships. Four are focused on daily education reporting in our four bureaus (New York, Denver, Indianapolis, and Memphis). And this year, for the first time, Chalkbeat is offering a New York-based business development internship, focused on helping Chalkbeat build its capacity and sustainability as a news nonprofit.
Our 2014 reporting internships were highly selective, and we anticipate they will be even more so this year. Chalkbeat interns are immersed in the exciting and fun atmosphere of an entrepreneurial start-up, where they are surrounded by smart, mission-aligned journalists.
Internships begin June 1 and end August 7, with some flexibility possible depending on academic calendars. Stipends range from $2,900 to $3,500, based on location.
Reporting internships: The reporting internships will offer student journalists the opportunity to work alongside some of the nation’s top education journalists in a dynamic, rapidly growing organization that is gaining a national reputation for entrepreneurial journalism. Interns will have the opportunity to undertake daily education news assignments and to work on longer, enterprise stories.
- Do you have a demonstrable passion for public policy and social issues journalism, strong reporting and writing skills, and comfort working in digital media? Are you a mission-driven, entrepreneurial, creative, energetic, and a tenacious reporter? Here’s how to apply.
Business development internship: The business development intern will work on a variety of projects to build Chalkbeat’s capacity in a few key areas: developing our finance, administration and talent management systems; developing and executing earned revenue strategies; and planning and executing our expansion to new markets.
- Are you energized by our mission and excited to help us build a strong and innovative news organization? Do you have some relevant experience in the business side of journalism, or in nonprofit management, product development or project management? Here’s how to apply.
Deadline for applications is Friday, March 6.
