New Yorkers bounded from shock to outrage to relief Thursday as they watched Miami’s star school superintendent back out of his promise to take over the New York City school system — on live television.
Perhaps the clearest encapsulation of the range of emotions — and how swiftly they were felt — came from Eric Phillips, Mayor Bill de Blasio’s press secretary, who was blindsided by Alberto Carvalho’s reversal.
But many others weighed in with emotion-filled reactions. First, there was straight-up shock:
