Education in Chicago’s Chinatown: We want to hear from you.

Join us to talk over tea and buns about the education needs of Chicago’s Chinatown community

The event will launch of Chalkbeat Chicago’s monthly “Office Hours” conversation series, where our staff will visit a neighborhood to hear directly from students and parents about schools.

From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, we’ll hold our first Office Hours at Project Vision Chicago, 236 W. 22nd Place No.,. The gathering is free and open to the public.

Our recent reporting has found that many Chinese-American parents around Chicago opt to place their children in private schools that offer more Chinese language options.

Residents in Chinatown also favored opening a new high school on the site of a popular elementary school until the plan was halted by a court order. Families argued that they’d pushed the district for years for an open-enrollment high school in the area and expressed concerns about the quality and safety of current neighborhood schools.

We’re inviting educators, students, advocates, and parents to join us for this critical conversation. Translation will be available.
