Silly Bandz: To ban or not to ban

I don’t know about you, but my daughter is obsessed with Silly Bandz – the greatest low production cost, high profit idea since the Pet Rock. Oh, so many colors and shapes. Animals. Guitars. Fairies. Dinosaurs. Pretty harmless, for the most part, until a kid turns one into a projectile or chokes on it. Except in school where they are becoming a major distraction. Almost every day, my third grade daughter comes home with stories of her latest Silly Bandz trade or attempt by another kid to get something from her in exchange for the sought-after pieces of silicon of multiple hue.

In Boulder Valley, it’s a school-wide or teacher decision as to whether to ban them. Across the state, districts are tackling this stretchy issue. The Denver Post writes about the trend.
