Adams City High School to get new principal as management company makes moves

Officials for MGT Consulting, the company that is running the Adams 14 school district, announced Monday a staffing overhaul for the district high school.

The changes continue the turnover in leadership at Adams City High School, which has had multiple years of low performance.

Starting next Monday, the high school will be led by Interim Principal Paul Sandos, who has most recently served as principal of the district’s smaller, alternative high school, Lester Arnold.

He replaces two co-principals, Gabriella Maldonado, and Veronica “BJ” Jeffers.

In a message to staff, Don Rangel, acting superintendent and MGT project lead, said this is the first phase of a reorganization plan for the district.

“While working to meet or surpass our turnaround goals, we are making a concerted effort to identify every employee’s unique skill set, and ensure that each employee is positioned where they’ll make the biggest impact to our success,” Rangel wrote.

Maldonado and Jeffers will transition to interim district positions. Maldonado will become interim director of student wellness. Jeffers will become interim director of community engagement and dropout prevention.

MGT is reassigning one of the high school’s assistant principals, Bari Fox, to become an interim intervention specialist.

At Lester Arnold, Assistant Principal Tom Deaguero will step up to become interim principal.

The message from the district indicates that MGT is in the process of evaluating the entire district’s staffing and organizational structure.

“These positions will remain as interim assignments until a new districtwide organizational staffing chart is finalized and adopted for the new academic year beginning July 1, 2020,” the message states.
