Rise & Shine: Middle school student had an unloaded gun in locker

Good morning,

Last year, parents raised concerns about discipline problems at School 43 and said the struggling IPS school was short-staffed. The comments came after the principal left – the school’s fifth principal in as many years.

Now, there’s a new principal, Lauren Johnson, and new plan for turning the school around. She’s starting by implementing positive routines and “chill out” spaces.

During an event moderated by our own Dylan Peers McCoy, Johnson said she wants parents and neighbors to know that she is here to stay.
