More schools are learning they will close

At least four more school closures will be announced to parents and staff in the next two days. The names I’m hearing are all elementary and middle schools. I’ll wait for the final word from the Department of Education, however, before publishing, so check back later in the day.

A thought: Scaling back the opening of new schools — one of the City Council’s proposed ways to cut education spending released today — could prove pretty difficult to do, since school closing seems about on pace this year. (The department announced three closures last week, two elementary schools and one middle school.)

UPDATE: The schools are PS 150 Christopher in Brooklyn, an elementary school, MS 399 in the Bronx and MS 321 Minerva in Manhattan, two middle schools, and Agnes Y. Humphrey School for Leadership in Brooklyn, which serves preK through sixth grade students and has a high school. PS 150 received an F on its most recent report card, and the three other schools received D’s.
