In the webinar about next year’s school budgets that Chancellor Dennis Walcott delivered to principals on Friday, he emphasized how much things have improved for school leaders under the Bloomberg administration. He also gave firm instructions about how the better-than-in-recent-years budgets should be used.
“With stable budgets this year, excessing should be very limited,” the PowerPoint presentation reads.
Last year, thousands of teachers were excessed, or told they would no longer have a position, when the city tried to “turn around” 24 struggling schools. An arbitrator and judge shot down that plan.
