Per his official city schedule: First he’s testifying at the City Council’s hearing on the Department of Education’s proposed budget. Then he’ll join Mayor Bloomberg in congratulating Arvind Mahankali, the M.S. 74 eighth-grader who won the national spelling bee last week, at City Hall. And he’ll end the day by presenting awards to the winners of the Toby Nussbaum Jewish Heritage-NY 2013 Contest, which asked students to write essays linking the concept of achdut (or unity) to the experiences of Jews and other ethnic groups in New York City.
