Parent PAC endorses Bill de Blasio for mayor

The Educational Justice Political Action Committee, composed of parents and community activists, has endorsed Public Advocate Bill de Blasio for mayor.

“From advocating for a tax on our city’s wealthiest to pay for universal early education and after-school programs to calling for a moratorium on co-locations and school closures, Bill has stood by our students, teachers and parents from day one,” said Ocynthia Williams, a longtime parent activist who is on EJPAC’s board.
It’s the latest in a string of endorsements from community groups and elected officials that de Blasio’s campaign is touting this week. De Blasio is also seen as a leading contender for the more significant UFT endorsement, due out on Wednesday.

We reported about EJPAC when it formed four years ago. The group supported candidates in New York City’s 2009 municipal elections, donating up to the maximum $2,750 for City Council candidate Daniel Dromm, who won his race. As of January, it had a little over $3,000 in its bank account.

EDUCATIONAL JUSTICE PAC (EJPAC) ENDORSES BILL DE BLASIO FOR MAYOR  Board of Directors Member Ocynthia Williams Commends de Blasio for “Advocating For True Universal Early Education For Our City’s Children”  Bronx, NY – Educational Justice PAC (EJPAC) today endorsed New York City Public Advocate and Democrat Bill de Blasio for Mayor. EJPAC Board of Directors Member Ocynthia Williams pointed toward de Blasio’s tireless efforts to create true universal early education and after-school programs for all New York City children. “Bill de Blasio understands that early education is the smartest investment we can make if we truly want to support this city’s next generation, and we are proud to endorse him as mayor today,” said EJPAC Board of Directors Member Ocynthia Williams. “From advocating for a tax on our city’s wealthiest to pay for universal early education and after-school programs to calling for a moratorium on co-locations and school closures, Bill has stood by our students, teachers and parents from day one — and we need a leader who listens to our city’s education stakeholders in City Hall next year.” “Educational Justice PAC understands that the path toward building stronger schools starts when we listen to the parents and teachers who work tirelessly to support our children — and I’m honored to receive their endorsement today,” said Bill de Blasio. “For twelve long years, this administration has shut community voices out of the decision-making process and closed down schools instead of helping them thrive. I’m committed to leading this city in a new direction, where schools across the five boroughs can depend on City Hall for consistent support and resources — and I’m honored to have EJPAC on our side this year.” About Educational Justice PAC: Educational Justice PAC is composed of parents and community residents who are active in the movement for educational justice in New York City.
