Where in the world is Dennis Walcott? Oh, just Barbados

Eight weeks after ending his tenure as New York City Schools Chancellor, Walcott has reemerged in Barbados, where he has been named an “honorary distinguished fellow” at the University of the West Indies for the year.

The New York Carib News has the full story about Walcott’s new job, which could include building ties between UWI — which has campuses in three Caribbean countries — and the State University of New York system.

Walcott tells the newspaper that he intends steer clear from controversial issues in his new role. “‘In due course, I will get to know about the system there,’ was all he would say,” reporter Tony Best writes.

Walcott was born in Queens but has family roots in Barbados. The island nation of about 280,000 is also a good place for a fitness nut — as Walcott has described himself — to spend the winter. Next week, when yet another snowstorm is due to hit New York City, it is predicted to be 80 degrees and sunny in Barbados.
