The city’s newest education philanthropist? Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift loves New York City, and she’s decided that donating to its civic infrastructure is the way to show it.

Swift announced on “The View” today that she plans to donate the proceeds from her song “Welcome to New York” to the city’s school system. A spokesperson for the education department said officials are still trying to figure out how the donation will work and how it will be spent.

How much does the city stand to bring in? Well, Swift’s new album (“gum-snapping”! “spry”! “breezily effective”!) is expected to sell 1 million copies in its first week, according to Billboard’s experts, and immediately become the second-biggest selling album of the year.

“We’re deeply appreciative of this kind gesture to donate her proceeds of the single ‘Welcome to New York’ to benefit NYC public schools, and look forward to working together to make our schools great,” spokeswoman Devora Kaye said.
