The Teach-Off is a live event March 7 at 3:30 p.m. CT at SXSW EDU in Austin. Our mission is to showcase the craft of teaching on a broad stage.

The two teacher teams who will face off, each teaching a mini-math lesson to 10 adult volunteers:

Eleanor Vierling and Kaitlin Ruggiero, High School of Telecommunication Arts and Technology, Brooklyn

“Right away, students were debating whether they should run down the stairs and try to go past security versus taking a zip line from the window down to the park.”  – Eleanor Vierling

Tim Livingston, Spring Independent School District, and Terrance O’Neil, McNabb Elementary School, Houston

“They surprised me off the jump… they caught onto that pattern quickly.” – Tim Livingston

How did we choose these teams? Read more here.

Our judges, who will point out all the cool, daring teaching moves after each lesson and award prizes to both teams:

Our design team, the teachers and teacher educators who worked with us to create the Teach-Off:

Bringing it all together will be Brandis Friedman, Chicago Tonight correspondent at WTTW/Chicago PBS.
